The cost of a new pump can be very high and improperly serviced old parts can result in damage to other engine components. 
The primary cause of fuel injection pump failures is the use of low-quality fuel. Many failures also result from user errors and extreme operating conditions, to which the components of the fuel supply and control system in diesel engines are exposed.

The process of regenerating injectors consists of the following steps:
